Additional Reading:

  • Lobo’s Back (1992) #3 [DC Comics] 10/1992
    • original inspiration for Prophet (1993) #4 Stephen Platt secret variant
  • Cable (2008) #25 [Marvel Comics] 06/2010
    • original cover art showed Badrock and Shaft in background
    • cover is itself an homage to Crisis On Infinite Earths (1985) #7
    • ShadowHawk (2010) #5 has a similar homage cover but DOES include Youngblood characters (!)
  • Black Hammer (2016) #10B [Dark Horse] 06/2017
    • Cover B is an homage to Rob Liefeld’s work.
    • This cover doesn’t appear to be an homage to a specific Liefeld cover, but rather a general homage.
    • The cover does call-out a character getting “EXTREME!!”
    • solicit text: The heroes of Spiral City have hung up their costumes and adapted to life in the sleepy town that they now call home-though some call it a prison. Instead of facing unearthly monsters and galactic threats, they deal with vengeful exes, misunderstandings, and hungry farm animals. As Abraham Slam wonders if he’s hit his expiration date, a new threat emerges in Rockwood that will keep him on his toes.
    • This issue’s story involves Abraham Slam, an aging hero, adopting a new costume and more violent tactics in an attempt to stay relevant. The new outfit and outlook are reminiscent of Liefeld’s style in the 1990s.
  • Cemetery Beach (2018) #5B [Image Comics] 01/2019
    • Cover B (“Impact variant”) is a general homage to Stephen Platt’s work on Prophet.
    • The character looks like Prophet and the logo is done in the style of Prophet.
    • I cannot find a Platt cover that looks like this. It appears to be an homage to the style on a specific title, but not of a specific existing cover.
  • Local Man Gold (2023) #0 [Image Comics] 08/2023
    • cover is a general homage to the covers from the Image/Valiant Comics crossover DeathMate, but is not a direct homage to any particular cover from the series
  • X-Liefelds (2019) #1 [Keenspot] 07/2019
    • CGC lists this as an homage to Youngblood (1992) #1. I believe that this is an error. All of the other homage covers for X-Liefelds (2019) #1 are from Marvel books exclusively. I believe that this is actually a homage to X-Force (1991) #8.
    • X-Force (1991 1st Series) #8
      • The cover in question is not an exact homage, but I believe it is closer to this image than it is to Youngblood (1992) #1. Maybe it is an homage to both?
