Crowdsourced on Zoop and released/shipped in October 2024, ‘Comics Are Dying: The Comic GN’ is a satirical journey through the history of the comic book industry recounted by 100 one-page comics by 1 writer (Louis Southard) and 100 artists.
The book contains two pages that directly reference the creator-owned works of Rob Liefeld.
On page 71, titled ‘The Original Writer,’ a famous scene from ‘Watchmen’ is recreated with Alan Moore taking the place of Dr. Manhattan, drawn by Sunando C..
The “1st Exciting Issue!” badge shown in the 1990s panel is a direct reference to the cover of Youngblood (1992) #1.
The story on page 77, titled ‘Lone Wolves,’ pays homage to Liefeld’s Youngblood and the founding of Image Comics. Louis Southard’s notes for this page read: “Get ready for the revolution! After Marvel’s best selling artists left to make their own books, the collective formed independent publisher Image Comics. Their premier title Youngblood by Rob Liefeld set the stage and tone for what their first wave of books were going to be.
