  - this use of a shield or shield-like object reminds me of the legal issues Liefeld faced from Marvel when publishing “Fighting American” titles. I believe there was a legal compromise where Fighting American could carry a shield, but he couldn’t throw it the way Captain America does.
- lead story ends with Crossjack’s archenemy The Hodag murdered and hung from the ceiling. The image is reminiscent of Billy Kincaid’s death in Spawn #5.

- There are many references to the early Image Comics Universe, including the TV talking heads from ‘Spawn (1992)’, Cyberdata from ‘Cyberforce (1992)’, and Castle Brunich (a location that made it’s only other appearance in ‘ShadowHawk (1992)’ #0, Rob Liefeld’s contribution to Image Comics’ X-Month (where the founding creators swapped titles for a month).
- The flip-book cover includes a “Team Third Gen” logo that is in the style of ‘Team Youngblood (1993)’.
  - The book’s “Cover B” shows the “Team Third Gen” comic book displayed on a store shelf surrounded by some real-world comics from Image Comics. I have been able to identify some issues: ‘Hellshock (1994)’ [1st Series] #2 from August 1999, ‘Freak Force (1993)’ #5 from April 1994, ‘Bloodstrike Assassin (1995)’ #0 from October 1995, ‘Supreme (1993)’ #32 also from October 1995, and ‘Wildstar (1995)’ [2nd Series] #1A.
